Pierogie Sale

OLD FORGE - St. Michael's Church, Church and Winter streets, Old Forge, is hosting a pierogie sale. The cost is $6 per dozen. Orders need to be placed by Friday, Feb. 3. Orders may be picked up on Tuesday, Feb., 7 from 2-5 p.m. in the church hall. Fashion Show

SCRANTON - The Pink Elegance on Parade fashion show to benefit the Northeast Pennsylvania Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 19, at the Radisson Lackawanna Station Hotel in Scranton.

The show features breast cancer survivors and their families, government officials and local celebrities. Basket raffles, a lunch and an opportunity to win a trip to Mt. Airy Casino and Hotel are among the afternoon's festivities, including some surprises.

According to organizers, 2012 wine glasses will be available for purchase, as well as jewelry and other Komen merchandise. A cash bar will also be available. Reservations are first come, first serve and are limited to the first 450 paid guests. Payment must be received in advance, as this tends to sell out and tickets will not be available at the door. Reserve your seat by February 1. Tickets are $40 for adults and $15 for children.

Award Program

TRIBORO - State Rep. Sid Michaels Kavulich announces that the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is accepting applications for the 2012 Governor's Environmental Excellence Award.

The award is open to any Pennsylvania business, government agency, educational institution, individual or farm that has participated in the development of a project that promotes environmental stewardship and economic development in the state.

"This is a great opportunity to recognize innovators that are working on projects that provide environmental benefits throughout the Commonwealth," Kavulich said.

Eligible projects include environmental technology innovation, clean energy innovation, pollution prevention and resource efficiency, community revitalization, environmental education or outreach, watershed stewardship and mine safety.

According to DEP, the project must have been completed between Aug. 1, 2010, and July 31, 2011. Each candidate may submit only one application for a particular project; however, companies with multiple facilities may submit an application for each facility. Previously awarded projects are not eligible for this award but past winners may submit applications for new projects for consideration. The deadline to submit projects is 5 p.m. Monday, Jan. 30.

Mardi Gras Celebration

OLD FORGE - Prince Of Peace Parish, Old Forge, will host a Mardi Gras party from 6:30-10:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 18, at Arcaro and Genell's on Main Street in Old Forge. The event will include a hot and cold buffet, beer, wine and soda.

The cost is $25 per person and is for adults only. Entertainment will be provided by Frankie Gervasi.

Little League Meeting

MOOSIC - The Moosic Little League will hold a re-organizational meeting at 8 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 23, in the borough building on Main Street. All officers, managers, volunteers and interested parents are asked to attend.

This will be the first general meeting of the year and the agenda will be sent very soon.

Spaghetti Dinner

TAYLOR - The Riverside Boys Basketball Booster Club will host a spaghetti dinner from noon to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 29, at the Riverside High School cafeteria. The cost is $8 for adults; $6 children younger than 10. There will also be basket raffles. Tickets can be purchased from any member of the team or a booster club member. Limited tickets will be available at the door and takeout will be available.

Hoagie Sale

MOOSIC - Oakwood Terrace, 400 Gleason Drive, Moosic, will conduct its annual hoagie sale fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 25. There will also be free delivery within a 5-mile radius of Moosic.

Orders of 10 or more hoagies will earn a free hoagie.

Orders are being taken in advance by calling Sylvia at 451-3171, ext. 116.

Proceeds benefit Oakwood Terrace's recreation department.
