MOOSIC — The Moosic United Methodist Church, 609 Main St., will host a take-out chicken barbecue from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 31. Limited tickets are available by calling 457-3217 or 457-6286.
TAYLOR — The Lackawanna Heritage Valley National and State Heritage Area will conduct a ribbon cutting and grand opening of the newest stretch of the Lackawanna River Heritage Trail connecting Elm Street in Scranton to the Keyser Creek in Taylor at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 26, at the newly constructed amphitheater that is located near the Taylor end of the trail. Parking will be available at the South Side Complex next to the Broadway Street trailhead in Scranton. The County of Lackawanna Transit System (COLTS) will provide transportation to shuttle guests to the dedication beginning at 10:15 a.m. from the Broadway trailhead. Trail users who prefer to walk or bike to the site are welcome to do so.
PITTSTON — A bus trip to Sight and Sound Theater in Lancaster to see “Miracle of Christmas” will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 4. Price of the trip is $102 and includes bus seat, show ticket, dinner and driver tip. After the show, dinner will be at Shady Maple’s smorgasbord with time to browse at the gift shop. A $50 deposit per person is required with reservation and the balance of $52 due no later than Tuesday, Sept. 10. Bus leaves from the Pittston Plaza at 9:15 a.m. For additional information or to make reservations call 654-2310 or 654-8775. St. Michael’s Chicken Barbecue
OLD FORGE — St. Michael’s Orthodox Church, Church and Winter streets, Old Forge, will host a takeout chicken barbecue dinner, Saturday, Aug. 17, from noon to 3 p.m. Dinners are $9 each. Place orders by Saturday, Aug. 10, by calling 562-3965.
Walk for St. Jude’s
SCRANTON — Old Forge resident and Scranton Prep student Kelcey Hill will host a walk at Nay Aug Park in Scranton, to benefit St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 4. The rain date is Sunday, Aug. 11. The event will include beverages, a baked sale and basket raffle. Dogs are welcome, but must be leashed.
OLD FORGE — Old Forge High Class of 1973 will have their 40th reunion on Saturday, July 27, at Arcaro and Genells on Main Street in Old Forge. To purchase tickets call 562-2894 or 562-3588.
Kuchinski Graduates Basic Training
MOOSIC — Army Reserve Pfc. Margaret Kuchinski has graduated from the Chaplain Assistant Advanced Individual Training course at the Chaplain School, Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
The course emphasized religious support, development of interpersonal skills, and unit ministry support to soldiers and family members. The support training provided services in a battlefield environment and battle fatigue casualty care.
Religious support classes instructed students to prepare altars for Protestant, Catholic, Jewish, and Orthodox worship services, and stressed the importance of being knowledgeable of all faith groups represented in the Army.
Kuchinski is the daughter of Jane and Eugene Kuchinski of Moosic.
She is a 2012 graduate of Holy Cross High School, Dunmore.
