Christmas Cookies

Saint Nicholas of Myra Byzantine Catholic Church, 320 Vine St. in Old Forge, is holding its annual Christmas cookie sale on Saturday, Dec. 16, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. All cookies are homemade including anise wedding,thumbprint, pepper cookies, chocolate chip, peanut butter kisses, nut rugalach, linzer, welsh cookies and more. Fill a box with the cookies you like, cost is $8 per pound.

Free Gift Wrapping

Continuing a long-standing tradition, Hope Church, 4951 Birney Ave. in the Cee Kay Plaza, Moosic, will offer free gift wrapping on Thursday, Dec. 14, 6-9 p.m.; Friday, Dec. 15, 6-9 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 16, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. This will be the ninth year of this free service. Area Grads Making their Mark

Riverside and Old Forge High School graduates Tyler Armillay, Joe Bruno and Corey Souriyvong were part of the Assumption College football team that recently defeated Findlay to advance to the NCAA Elite Eight in Division II. Armillay is a four-year starter at left guard who has been named to the NE10 all-conference second team and Bruno is a three-year player who was named to the NE10 all-conference first team.

Dean’s List

Lauren Golden of Dupont has been named to Sherman College of Chiropractic’s dean’s list for grades earned during the summer academic quarter.

Christmas Party

The Moosic Lions Club will host its annual children’s Christmas party on Thursday, Dec. 14, at the Moosic Youth Center. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. and all children 12 and younger from Moosic are welcome to attend. Damian the Magician will perform and there will be a bounce house. The festivities will be capped off with a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus with treats for the kids.

Brough Office Closures

Old Forge Borough offices will be closed on Monday, Dec. 25, and Monday, Jan. 2, 2018; therefore, garbage and recycling will be one day behind both weeks.
