Moosic Youth Center School of Dance

The Moosic Youth Center (MYC) School of Dance, 606 Main St., has been in the business of educating children and adults in pre-ballet, ballet, tap and jazz since 1979. The studio provides its students with the opportunity to advance in all dance styles, with the emphasis on promoting grace, poise and self discipline. Officials say the dance center has played a part in the character development of its students for 32 years. Gina M. Aldrich is artistic director assisted by Tiana Muskey and Amy Velehoski.

Classes are available in pre-ballet, ballet, tap and jazz. Classes start each year in September and continue until May when the center holds its annual ballet recital and tap and jazz recital.

For the beginning dancer (ages 3-7), pre-ballet is offered. According to the Center, children will be introduced to the world of dance through a pleasant, enjoyable and pressure-free environment. The primary purpose of the pre-ballet course is to develop rhythm, disciplined group activity and provide a basic foundation in elementary dance movement.

Classical ballet is taught to students 8 and older. Pointe work is added when sufficient strength and technical skill has been developed.

Tap dancing is taught to children 5 and older. This style of dancing is based on body mechanics that develop a sensitive awareness of movement, rhythm, balance, flexibility and its relationship to other forms of theater dance.

Jazz dancing is taught to children 4 and older. This style is a type of theatrical dance found in musical theater, television and motion pictures.

Classes start Monday, Sept. 13. Call 963-7454 to register. Visit www.mycschoolofdance.tripod.com or e-mail mycschoolofdance@hotmail.com for more information.
