Report Cards: Second-quarter report cards will be distributed in the Old Forge School District on Thursday, Feb. 2. Parent-teacher conferences will be held in the high school from 12:30-3 p.m. and 1-3 p.m. in the elementary on Friday, Feb. 3. Students will have an early dismissal on Friday, Feb. 3. Elementary dismissal will be at 11:20 a.m., high school at 11:30 a.m.
Dog Licenses: Dog licenses will be issued in Old Forge by a representative of the Lackawanna County Treasurer's Office from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 2, in council chambers, Old Forge Borough Building, 310 S. Main St.
Report Cards: Riverside Elementary School has announced that second-quarter report cards will be distributed on Friday, Feb. 3. Parent-teacher conferences will be held on Thursday, Feb. 16 and Friday, Feb. 17. There will be an early dismissal both days, East at 11 a.m. and West at 11:30 a.m.
Banquet Planned: The Riverside Touchdown Club will hold its annual banquet at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 4, at the Riverside High School.
Tickets are $15 for adults; $12 for children 10 and younger.
There will be no tickets sold at the door.
Moosic Red Wings: The Moosic Red Wings will hold registrations on Saturday Feb. 4, 11 and 18 at the Moosic Borough Building from 12-2 p.m. Fee is $45 per girl or $70 per family. The Moosic Red Wings will also hold its yearly Nite at the Races fundraiser on Saturday, Feb. 18, from 7-11 p.m. at the Greenwood Hose Company. Admission is $5. Refreshments will be provided.
Pierogie Sale: St. Michael's Church, Church and Winter streets, Old Forge, is hosting a pierogie sale.
The cost is $6 per dozen. Orders need to be placed by Friday, Feb. 3. Orders may be picked up on Tuesday, Feb. 7, from 2-5 p.m. in the church hall. Call Dorothy at 562-1434, Sandra at 457-9280, Al at 562-3965 or the church at 457-2875 to place an order or for more information.
Winter Rummage Sale: St. Joseph Melkite Greek-Catholic Church, 130 Cabrini Ave., Scranton, will hold a winter rummage sale from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 11.

Free Dinner: St. Paul's Church, 401 West Grove St., will host its second annual free Valentine's dinner at 12:20 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 12. All are invited for the dinner with dessert buffet followed by games for the kids and the young at heart. Call Pastor Norm or Amy Demming at 689-5052 by Wednesday, Feb. 8 to make a reservation.
Valentine Party: The Taylor Senior Citizens Association will host a Valentine Party for members from at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 12, in the senior room at the Taylor Community Center.
The price is $14 per person.
Mommy Daddy and Me: Romar Dance Studio, 201 Sussex St., Old Forge, is taking registrations for its 14th season of "Mommy Daddy and Me." This little gym class in movement and fitness is for boys and girls, 18 months to 3 years old. Simple coordination is introduced to students by combining fitness activities along with musical and rhythmic actions.
The six-week spring session will begin on Saturday, Feb. 18, from 9:30-10 a.m. Space is limited. For more information, including cost, call the studio at 457-6576.
Mardi Gras Celebration: Prince Of Peace Parish, Old Forge, will host a Mardi Gras party from 6:30-10:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 18, at Arcaro and Genell's on Main Street in Old Forge. The event will include a hot and cold buffet, beer, wine and soda.
The cost is $25 per person and is for adults only. Entertainment will be provided by Frankie Gervasi of the "Poets."

Parish Breakfast: Divine Mercy Parish at the Church of St. Joseph in Minooka will host a breakfast from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 19, in the parish center. Featured will be cooked- to-order omelets and homemade Belgian waffles with fruit toppings.
The menu will also include homefries, sausage, bacon and homemade coffee cakes, breads and pastries. Cost is $8 for adults; $4 for children younger than 12.
Tickets will be sold after all masses, and will also be available at the door.
Fashion Show: The Pink Elegance on Parade fashion show to benefit the Northeast Pennsylvania Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 19, at the Radisson Lackawanna Station Hotel in Scranton.
The show features breast cancer survivors and their families, government officials and local celebrities. Basket raffles, a lunch and an opportunity to win a trip to Mt. Airy Casino and Hotel are among the afternoon's festivities, including some surprises.
According to organizers, 2012 wine glasses will be available for purchase, as well as jewelry and other Komen merchandise. A cash bar will also be available. Reservations are first come, first serve and are limited to the first 450 paid guests. Payment must be received in advance, as this tends to sell out and tickets will not be available at the door. Reserve your seat by February 1. Tickets are $40 for adults and $15 for children.

Business Commercial Recycling Report: The annual commercial recycling report is being distributed to all commercial, institutional and industrial establishments in Moosic Borough. This report must be completed and returned to the borough office by Feb. 28. Moosic Borough is mandated by Act 101 to require all commercial, industrial and institutional establishments in the borough to recycle. If you have not received this form please call 457-5780.
Taylor Historical Society: The Taylor Historical Society will host a tour of the Historic Scranton Iron Furnaces on Cedar Avenue at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 24. New Hours: The Pennsylvania Anthracite Heritage Museum will be closed to the public on Mondays through March. The museum will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is charged for the museum's main exhibit, "Anthracite People: Immigration" and "Ethnicity in Pennsylvania's Hard Coal Region" and the temporary exhibit, "The Great Anthracite Coal Strike of 1902."
The Pennsylvania Anthracite Heritage Museum is located in McDade Park, off Keyser Avenue, in Scranton (Exits 182 or 191-B off I-81, and Exit 122, Keyser Avenue, from I-476).

Moosic Borough Snow Removal: Moosic Borough residents are reminded that it is illegal for any person, owner or resident of the borough to deposit, throw or discard snow, slush or other obstructions into the public streets and rights-of-way. Offenders may be subject to a $600 fine. Residents have 24 hours after the snow stops to remove the snow and ice from their sidewalks.
Moosic Tax Collection: Moosic Borough tax collector Bryan Fauver will be available during December by appointment only.

Reading to Dogs: The Taylor Community Library is once again hosting "Read to the Dogs Program" for children in grades one through five. They are encouraged to come to the library and read to a therapy dog. The program is held on the fourth Monday of the month except in December when it will be on the third Monday. The program begins at 6:30 p.m. and books will be provided for the child to read. If you have any questions or would like to participate in this program contact the library at 562-1234. Clothing Dropbox: The Moosic Alliance Church, 608 Rocky Glen Road, in cooperation with St. Pauly Textile, is now sponsoring a clothing drop off shed as a fundraiser to send youth to camp. The youth at Moosic Alliance Church will in turn receive $40 for every 1,000 pounds of clothing that is donated.
Simply Smart: First National Community Bank, as part of a larger community outreach program, announced a program that rewards local students for their hard work and success during the school year, called Simply Smart. This program rewards students with $1 for every A or number grade above 90 percent on their report card every marking period. Starting with the current marking period, students need to bring their report card to any of the 21 FNCB branches in Lackawanna, Luzerne, Monroe and Wayne counties. The reward amount will then be deposited into their new or existing interest-bearing youth savings account. In addition to the monetary reward, all participating students will receive a personalized certificate of participation.
Student Help: As students and parents begin the process of applying for college financial aid, state Rep. Sid Michaels Kavulich reminds them that there is free help to complete the forms.
The Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency is offering free FAFSA completion sessions for students and parents who are filing FAFSA forms. For the complete listing of sessions, and more information on FAFSA, visit www.PHEAA.org/FAFSA.
Lupus Group: All lupus patients and their family members or friends are invited to attend the new lupus support group co-facilitated by Paula Hannagan and Marilyn Deutsch. The group will meet the second Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at the Lupus Foundation of Pennsylvania, 615 Jefferson Ave., Scranton.

Garbage Stickers: Attention Old Forge residents should note that garbage stickers are available at the following locations:

- Medicine Shoppe, Main Street;
- Ace Hardware, Main Street;
- Rossi's, Main Street;
- Sayona, Keyser Avenue; and
- Turkey Hill, Main Street.
Pet Notice: Old Forge residents are reminded that the borough has an ordinance governing the curbing of pets and other animals and the responsibility for the removal of all animal waste. This ordinance applies to all borough parks. Any person violating any of the provisions of this ordinance shall be subject to fines.
Zumba Classes: Zumba classes will be held at Romar Dance Studio at 7 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays. The class is taught by Melissa Jones-Mariotti, certified Zumba instructor. The cost is $5 per class. For information, call at 457-6576.
Bulky Waste: Old Forge Borough Council has enacted an ordinance establishing a bulky waste collection rate of $6 per bulk waste item. The definition of bulky wastes is appliances, furniture, bedding and the like. The use of three $2 stickers is required. If you have any questions, call the administrative office at 457-8852.
Sewer Payment Notice: Old Forge residents are reminded that the borough sewer bills are to be paid at the Old Forge Branch of Penn Security Bank only. Other branches of Penn Security will not accept these payments.
Yard Waste Notice: Moosic Borough can no longer accept grass and leaves in any type of plastic bag (biodegradable or not).
This is a requirement by the Department of Environmental Protection. Grass and leaves must be placed in separate open containers, weighing no more than 35 pounds. Brush and tree limbs cannot be mixed with grass and leaves. They can be bundled together or placed in separate open containers.
Mass Schedule: The following is a Mass schedule for Prince of Peace Church, Old Forge: Saturday vigil is celebrated at 4 p.m. at St. Mary's, Church Street, and at 5:30 p.m. at St. Lawrence's Church on Main Street. Sunday Mass is celebrated at 8 and 10 a.m. at St. Mary's and 11:15 a.m. at St. Lawrence's.
New Members Welcome: The members of the First United Methodist Church, Harrison Street, Old Forge, announced that anyone new to the area who is looking for a place of worship is welcome to join the parish. Worship begins at 11:15 a.m. Children and people from all denominations are always welcome. The church is handicap accessible.
Seeking Volunteers: Serving Seniors is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life and care of nursing home, assisted living/personal care home residents and older adults throughout Lackawanna County through its community services, transportation program, volunteer visitation, guardianship and ombudsman services and PEER (Pennsylvania's Empowered Expert Residents) program. Serving Seniors is funded by the Lackawanna County Commissioners through the Lackawanna County Area Agency on Aging with funds from the Pennsylvania Department of Aging, the Federal Administration on Aging and the United Way of Lackawanna County. If you are available a few hours a month, 18 or older, concerned about the rights of nursing home and assisted living/personal care home residents and interested in making a difference in the lives of older adults, then you may be perfect for the volunteer program. Borough Meetings: The 2011 Old Forge Borough Council meetings are scheduled as follows:
Work session meetings are held on the first Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m.; public meetings are the third Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m.; and planning meetings are the first Thursday of every month at 7:30 p.m.
All meetings are held in council chambers located at the Old Forge Borough Building.
Recycling Notice: Old Forge Borough officials remind residents that a state law requires recycling in the borough. Cans, bottles and plastic are picked up at the curb on alternate weeks with newspaper and cardboard. If you have any questions or for more details on what can be recycled please call 457-8852.
Seeking Members: The Moosic Lions Club is opening membership for those interested in becoming a Knight of the Blind and Hearing Impaired and helping people in need. The group also sponsors a children's Christmas party and a Easter egg hunt.
