When people think about summer, most think about picnics, festivals, food, vacations and getting into the dreaded bathing suit.
They rarely think about — nor want to think about — the work it takes to get in shape to look good in that bathing suit.
“That’s where we come in,” Taylor resident and fitness instructor Rob Zuby said. “My wife and I are really into fitness and we really want to help people conquer their fitness goals and get a workout in for free.”
According to Zuby, his classes don’t offer the same workouts every time, which gives participants a chance to try a sampling of different programs.
“It’s important because the obesity epidemic is out of control in the United States,” he said. “By no means a are we fitness experts, we’re just local people trying to help our neighbors do something, even if it’s a little something, to get themselves ahead of the national curve.”
Zuby and his wife Leann are certified independent Beachbody coaches, but the biweekly classes the pair offers free at the United Methodist Church on Main Street in Taylor aren’t about selling you on the Beachbody product.
“People can come to the classes as many times as they like,” he said. “Again, what’s really important is getting people on the right track to becoming healthy.”
“You feel better about yourself, more confident about yourself,” he added. “When you’re healthy you’re happy.”
Zuby, who is employed as a full-time police officer in Taylor Borough, was introduced to the Beachbody program while vacationing in Florida.
“I was always promoting fitness,” he explained. “You don’t have to join a gym, you can do these things in your home and get incredible results. Again, my goal is to get people healthy. It’s about getting people eating right and exercising right. Some people just need a little motivation and encouragement from friends.”
Zuby explained that the typical workout lasts about 25 minutes, without any breaks.
“It’s a total body workout,” he said. “Most people don’t realize that in less than four percent of your entire day you can make a great improvement to your health and well-being.”
For those unsure they can keep up, the program does have modifiers for those just starting out.
“Each week, as they keep coming back and getting better and better they don’t have to modify the moves anymore,” Zuby said.
