Speed your way through Taylor on a regular basis? Perhaps you'd better think twice.

"All shifts conduct speeding enforcement," said borough police officer Rob Ruby. "We've had complaints of speeding on all roads throughout the town and we will be out there doing our best to catch the violators."

"There will be no warnings issued," added police chief Stephen Derenick "We're also putting down additional lines to enforce speed in other areas."

Zuby has been working with the borough's department of public works to repaint VASCAR lines throughout the borough. VASCAR stands for Visual Average Speed Computer and Recorder. The lines are pair of white lines painted a 110 feet apart across the roadway that aid police with speed enforcement.

Lines are repainted once a year in July and August so that an enhanced speed enforcement campaign can begin before the school year. Taylor Borough provides the manpower and supplies.

According to Zuby, the VASCAR lines are a good way to clock a vehicle, especially at nighttime because the white paint is easier to see.

However, speed enforcement and vehicle clocking is conducted in areas that don't have the painted VASCAR lines.

"As long as you have two stationary objects you are able to get the average speed from point a to point b," Zuby said.

Moreover, Zuby explained that you don't always need to be stationary when running speed enforcement.

"Sometimes we'll be behind someone and be pacing them," he added.

Machines used by the borough's police force are calibrated every 60 days.

Speed on throughout the borough is typically 25 miles per hour The fine for speeding violators varies.

"The greater the speed the more points get added to your license," Zuby added.
