Drivers will soon face a detour when the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) closes the Main Street Bridge in Old Forge.
"There are detours," said Kim Buggy, officer in charge of the Old Forge police department.
Those in cars, trucks, vans and SUVs won't have to travel too far out of their way, using Lonesome Road as an alternate route. Tractor trailers will now have to detour through Avoca to get to Duryea.
Anticipating increased traffic along Lonesome Road, PennDOT installed stop lights in order to control the surge of vehicles expected to use the detour during work on the bridge.
The $3.5-$4 million dollar project, slated to begin Monday, Jan. 21, will involve removing the existing structure and building a new one, with work to be complete by January 2014.
