Zombies Invade

Embracing the fictional "zombie invasion" was a no-brainer for West Scranton siblings Bethany and Adam Youshock.

"There's not really much to do in the area," Bethany remarked during last weekend's 5K run/walk event, which benefited the West Scranton Hyde Park Neighborhood Watch. "It seemed interesting and fun. We wanted to get out and participate."

According to organizers, nearly 100 people participated either as humans or zombies.

The 3.1 mile event began at Allen Park and participants trekked to St. Ann's Basilica before heading back to the race's starting point.

Both Bethany and her brother eagerly participated as zombies, attempting to capture the "life" ribbons worn by human participants.

"It looked fun when we read about it," Adam said. "We wanted to get out and participate."

Organizers have announced plans to host the event again next year.
